In many traditions in Iiai and Kenjutsu it’s considered poor technique to completely sever the head. the preference is to leave a flap of skins so the head does not roll about giving the eyes a last look at the world rolling by. Being that few if any heads have rolled since the end of WWII most of my senses were a bit unclear about how you achieved that, except that proper tenuchi was key.
    sorry ! your story just brought back a flood of training memories.
